Odisha police arrest three from Jharkhand for online fraud

Odisha police have arrested three persons from Jharkhand for their alleged involvement in online fraud, police sources said today.

According to reports, a joint team of Commissionerate Police zeroed in on three individuals in Jamtara in neighbouring Jharkhand who had conned several individuals here of lakhs of rupees.

Based on two complaints filed at Puri Ghat and Dargha Bazar police stations in 2015, Commissionerate police was investigating the case. During the investigation, police tracked down the fraudsters to Jharkhand.

The accused Dilshad Ansari, Soufiq Ansari and Yousuf Ansari used to call up unsuspecting individuals and gather crucial bank details and then transfer money from these accounts.

“They first collect phone numbers of people. The call up people randomly and seek details of bank accounts. With this information, they withdraw money from their accounts. The members of this gang also used the details for online shopping,” Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora said.

Police suspect the involvement of several other people in the gang. Meanwhile, police have seized six mobile phones, a laptop and Rs 35, 000 cash from their possession.
