Odisha police issues circular over SC’s restriction on crackers during Diwali

Bhubaneswar: A circular has been issued by the Odisha police directing all the SPs and DCPs to ensure imposition of restriction by the Supreme Court over bursting of firecrackers on Diwali.

Informing about it at a press conference, DGP RP Sharma said the restrictions will be strictly imposed at sensitive places and bursting of firecrackers at other places will be allowed between 8 pm and 10 pm.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the use of only green firecrackers with reduced emission and decibel levels during all religious festivals. A bench of Justice A.K. Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan specified that on Diwali, firecrackers could be burst only between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The court said that all states would make endeavour to explore the feasibility of community firecracker show and would adhere to the time limit during which fire crackers could be burst. This would be applicable throughout India.
