Odisha school principal arrested for sexually harassing girls

Police today arrested the Director and Principal of a public school in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on charges of sexually harassing two teenage girls of the school.

According to a complaint lodged with the police, the accused had allegedly cast an evil eye on them and was making inappropriate advances towards them. He persuaded them to have physical relationship with him in exchange of good marks in the examinations.

The Principal had allegedly threatened the duo studying in class IX of dire consequences if they revealed it to anybody.

The Child Protection Cell had launched an inquiry into the allegations after the matter was brought to the notice of the district administration.

The accused, Sanjib Singh, was booked under section 354 (assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC (Indian Penal Code) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following the complaint of the minor girls, IIC of Town Police Station Ramesh Bisoi said.
