Odisha school student suffers hearing loss after teacher’s hard slap

In a shocking incident, a class X student suffered hearing loss after he was brutally assaulted by his teacher at the SCB Medical Public School in Cuttack in Odisha.

The incident that took place on July 30 came to light on Wednesday after Amit Das, father of the student, raised the issue at a meeting of the parents’ association.

Das has alleged that his 15-year-old son was slapped hard by the school’s Physics teacher Rupak Mohanty, resulting in his hearing loss.

He said the Physics teacher had been pressurising his son to join his tuition classes and got angry when he repeatedly refused to do so. On July 30, the teacher allegedly got wild after his son expressed his reluctance to be join his tution classes and gave him a hard slap.

The Association, while accusing the school authorities of trying to hush up the incident, has demanded a thorough probe into the incident.

However, refuting the allegations of the Association, principal of the school Bidyutlata Ojha said the school authorities had issued a show cause notice to the erring teacher after they were informed by the parent of the student on July 31.

The teacher has resigned from the job on the same day, she added.
