Odisha student misleads cops, family narrating fake abduction story

Bhubaneswar: In a weird incident, a school student remained in media glare throughout the day on Friday gaining sympathy of police, his family and school authority narrating about his alleged abduction, which appeared to be a fake.

After his family lodged an abduction complaint with Infocity police, he was traced in Puri and brought to the city.

The student studies in a private school in Patia area in Bhubaneswar.

According to reports, not attending the classes, the student visited Puri with his friends in a vehicle. When he could not return school campus on time and was caught by Puri police while wandering alone on sea beach, he lied his family, who resides in Jaraka in Dharmasala of Jajpur district, that he was brought to Puri after kidnap.

Hearing about his abduction, his parents rushed Bhubaneswar and lodged a complaint at Infocity police station alleging kidnapping of their son. Acting on the allegation, Infocity police along with Puri police as well as the media and school authority launched probe.

Initially, police suspected that he might have kidnapped by somebody over business rivalry for which his parents lodged the abduction complaint with Infocity police.

When he was asked several questions by media about his abduction, he tried to modify his versions.

His statements were mismatched with the kidnapping story that he had narrated to his parents and police, said Infocity police.

However, the probe will continue, police said.
