Odisha villagers picked up by C’garh police as suspected Maoists released

Malkangiri, May 24:

As many as six tribal villagers of Odisha’s Malkangiri district, who were recently picked up by Chhattisgarh police as suspected Maoists, have been released after questioning.

According to sources, 20-30 police personnel in uniform from Sukma in Chhattisgarh had come to Mahupadar village under Mathili police limits of Malkangiri district on May 21 and picked up four villagers including a couple and took them to an unknown destination.

The policemen had also picked up two villagers of Guruguda village.

Though it was earlier suspected that Maoists had kidnapped the villagers, Malkangiri SDPO Prateek Gita Singh had later confirmed that they were picked up by the police of neighbouring state.
