Odisha woman cop levels sexual harassment allegation against GRP IIC

Bhubaneswar: A woman sub-inspector of Government Railway Police (GRP) has levelled a serious allegation of sexual harassment against GRP IIC Soubhagya Ranjan Swain.

As per the allegation, the IIC had molested the woman in 2015 while he had gone to her house.

The statement of the complainant has been recorded under Section 161 of CrPC at Mahila police station here.

On the other hand, IIC Swain has termed the allegation as false and baseless. He further said that she has done so with an intention of tarnishing his image.

Swain also said that he had submitted a report to the SP regarding her indiscipline during duties as she once went to Cuttack on Dussehra duty and didn’t return for many days without informing. In an act of revenge, she has brought such allegation against him, he said.

“A case has been registered into the incident at Mahila PS under Sections 376 (2), 354, 506, 509 and 342 of IPC. An investigation will be carried out by the Additional DCP, investigating unit for crime against women, and Bhubaneswar DCP will supervise it,” said Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania.

“Action will be taken after investigation. If the allegation is found to be false, action will be taken against the complainant,” said SP, GRP, Cuttack.
