Odisha woman curing kidney diseases with burnt lemon!

Malkangiri: A nondescript village in Odisha’s Maoist-infested Malkangiri district is making headlines for homemade remedy for kidney ailments.

Scores of patients suffering from kidney ailments are thronging MV 104 in the district to get cured of the life-threatening diseases.

People from Odisha and neighbouring states are visiting the village with a hope to get the free treatment provided by Tarulata Sarkar. Believe it or not, the woman has been preparing the medicine from burnt lemon laced with jaggery.

While the woman extends her service free of cost, several people claimed that they have been benefitted from this preparation.

“I was suffering from kidney-related disease. My creatinine level was 5.3 mg/dL prior to this treatment. Now, it has come down to 1.6 mg/dL. I am feeling better after availing this treatment,’ a patient claimed.

Worth mentioning, the typical reference range for serum creatinine is 0.7 to 1.2 mg/dL) for men and 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dL for women.

Not long ago, Tarulata’s father was cured of kidney disease. She was directed by Goddess Kali in dreams to administer the medicine to him. The news travelled boundaries and people made a beeline twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays to take advantage of the free facility.

“Doctors told me that my father won’t survive beyond a week. I cried before Goddess Kali. She showed me the way. Since my father got benefitted, I am practicing since then,” Tarulata expressed.

In allopathy, there is no alternate treatment for kidney diseases other than dialysis. I am much better after taking this medicine, said Shyam Chandrani, a patient from Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

The medical practitioners, however, are not convinced with the homemade formulation curing such deadly diseases.
