Odisha youth ends life after being humiliated by Khap panchayat

Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, the humiliation and insult by Khap panchayat forced a youth to commit suicide at Kalimela village here in the district.

The youth identified as Dibakar Bepari took the extreme step after he was beaten up by the locals as part of punishment for supporting two lovers in the village. His body was found hanging near a temple yesterday morning.

Police launched probe into death following written complaint lodged by the youth’s brother.

The incident took place at MPV-20 village under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district on Friday.

According to reports, Dibakar was the victim of khap panchayat atrocity for his support towards two lovers. Kangaroo court slapped Rs 15,000 as fine on him and ordered the locals to thrash him in public for helping a minor girl to have affair with another youth of his village.

Dibakar finally ended his life out of humiliation and insult he felt after he was beaten up by the villagers.
