Odisha’s Sambalpur Varsity cancels +3 Eng Hons exam after faux pas

Authorities of Sambalpur University in Odisha have cancelled the examination for the second paper of English honours paper of the Plus Three first year after it was found that the questions were set from the old syllabus.

After students protested the faux pas, the university has decided to conduct fresh examination of the paper within a week. Besides, it has also issued show cause notices to three officials.

According to reports, the Plus Three First Year English Honours students of 23 colleges under Sambalpur University were scheduled to appear the second paper on Saturday.

But they were surprised to find that the questions had been set based in the old syllabus. The students informed the matter to the college authorities.

Reports from Bargarh said that the students of Trust Fund College left the examination hall 10 minutes after the commencement of the examination.

When asked about the matter, Controller of Examinations Sisir Swain said the three senior officials who are in charge of assigning question papers to senior teachers had sent them the old syllabus instead of the new syllabus. The moderator, who should have examined the syllabus, too had ignored it.

“We have started preparation of questions on a war-footing and expect it to be ready by Monday. After the question papers are received, we would announce the date of examination very soon,” Swain said.

Meanwhile, medical students have levelled allegations of gross apathy against University authorities in the timely despatch of question papers to Rourkela as a result of which the examination had to be cancelled.

Besides, reports also said that there was error in the Mathematics question paper the examination of which was held on Friday.

Expressing resentment and anguish over the gross apathy of the University officials, senate members of the University Ashok Behera, Nabakrushna Mishra, Harihar Sahu, Pramod Dora and the guardians have demanded stern action against them.
