“We are trying to ascertain the IP address and internet id of the hacker. We have already short-listed some and further investigation is on. Very soon it will be known from where the hacking took place. We strongly suspect that the hacking has been done from Bhubaneswar. We suspect that some over enthusiastic and knowledgeable IT students while practicing ethical hacking had succeeded in breaking OUAT website’s password. During investigation we haven’t found any sabotage or ill intention behind the act as they haven’t posted any objectionable content in the website,” said Sharma briefing reporters.

The Commissioner of Police said that a case has been registered under sections 65, 66(a) and 66(c) of the IT Act in this connection on Saturday.

The official website of the OUAT was hacked on Friday between 6 pm to 8 pm in the evening by a hacker identifying himself as ‘Don’.

After media alerted OUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoranjan Kar about the hacking he had asked officials to shut down the website and remove it from the server immediately as a precautionary measure.

OUAT authorities had registered an FIR with the Khandagiri police station here on Saturday about the hacking of the website and had also marked a copy of the same to the Crime Branch.
