Outrage in Odisha’s Bhadrak: Situation under control, sec 144 in force

The situation appears to be under control in Bhadrak town of Odisha following tension erupted yesterday over offensive remarks on Lord Ram, Hanuman and goddess Sita.

However, section 144 is still in force in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

The security forces are keeping strong vigil on the situation. Around 10 platoons of police forces have been deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, the police have identified some persons and detained one in connection with destroying harmony in the locality.

“The situation is under control. We have identified few persons and detained one person in this connection. The vigil is kept on the situation in the area. Already 10 platoons of police have been deployed and IG is camping there. The section 144 is still in force”, said DGP KB Singh.

On the other hand, the peace committee meeting will be held at 2.30 pm.

Notably, the tension intensified in Bhadrak town yesterday following objectionable remarks on Lord Ram, goddess Sita on social media.

The Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists blocked the main road by burning tyres protesting the incident.

They also gheraoed Bhadrak Town police station demanding arrest of the persons involved in posting such remarks in social media.

The Bhagat Sena Ram Navmi Samiti has lodged a complaint with police in this regard.

The district administration clamped section 144 of CrPC in the town following the outrage.
