Alok Jena, the petitioner whose PIL led to the Supreme Court ordering the CBI to probe the Odisha chit fund scam, filed a fresh petition in the apex court on  Friday seeking monitoring of the ongoing probe by the court.

Among the grounds cited by the petitioner to justify the plea for Supreme Court monitoring of the investigation are the paucity of CBI staff assigned to carry out the probe, attempts by the ruling party to derail the probe and the refusal of the Odisha government to share crucial documents with the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Seeking a directive to the CBI to file a report on the progress made; adequacy/ inadequacy of personnel; adequacy/ inadequacy of infrastructure; extent of cooperation from the various authorities, including the State of Odisha, the petitioner said the court may consider appointing a Monitoring Team to supervise investigation by the CBI based on the response of the agency.
