Phulbani shivers at 1.6 degrees; cold wave in Odisha to last till Dec 29

Most places of Odisha are reeling under an intense cold wave with Phulbani recording the season’s lowest temperature of 1.6 degree Celsius.

The Met office said cold wave conditions in the state would continue till December 29.

“The average speed of the wind, blowing from north-east and north-west direction, is around 15-20 kmph. While the wind is blowing from the north and west Himalayan region, the condition in Odisha has become favourable due to clear sky. As a result, there is a sharp fall in night temperature in most parts of the state,” Dr Sarat Sahu, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar told the media today.

He also said the cold wave condition would be more intense after December 25 and continue for four days.

According to a Met release this evening, 12 places in Odisha recorded below 10 degree Celsius today.

Besidese Phulbani, the other places where the temperature slumped to below 10 degree are Jharsuguda (8.2), Keonjhar (6.4), Sambalpur (9.3), Sundargarh (5.9), Hirakud (8.3), Bhawanipatna (8.2), Bolangir (9), Koraput (6.8), Titlagarh (9), Malkangiri (9.2) and Daringbadi (5.2).

The places where the temperature hovered between 10 and 14 degree Celsius are, Bhubaneswar (11.2), Baleswar (11.4), Chandbali (11.9), Cuttack (14.4), Paradip (13.6), Gopalpur (12.8), Puri (13.9), Angul (10), Baripada (10), Talcher (10.2), Sonepur (11) and Dhenkanal (10.3).
