PM felicitates Odisha mountaineer Yogavyas Bhoi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated mountaineer Yogavyas Bhoi of Odisha at his office in New Delhi today.

Yogavyas BhoiCongratulating Bhoi, the Prime Minister wished him to bring more laurels for his country in the days ahead.

Senior BJP leader of Odisha and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Bhoi, who has already scaled five top mountains in five continents, has planned to scale two other mountains.

“A native of Rupra village under Kesinga police station limits in Kalahandi district, Bhoi, at the age of 35, has set a unique record which is not only matter of pride for Odisha, but also for the nation,” Pradhan said.

It may be mentioned that Bhoi has set a record in scaling the Carstensz Pyramid, the highest mountain peak (4684 metre) in Australia, without an oxygen cylinder.

Apart from this, he is the first Odia and the second Indian to scale Mt Elbrus in Russia (5642 metre) in 2013.

Prior to this, he had also scaled four mountain peaks—Mt Annapurna (8091 metre) in Nepal and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania (5865 metre), Mt Stok Kangri (6153 metre) and Mt Everest (8848 metre)— in 2011.

“My aim is to scale the seven highest mountains in seven continents and 14 mountains of over 8000 metres,” Bhoi said.
