PM Modi to felicitate Odisha freedom fighters’ families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will felicitate the families of Odia freedom fighters during his two-day visit in Odisha.

Modi will honour the families of freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives in fight against British rule. The PM will felicitate them on behalf of the country during a programme at Raj Bhawan on April 16, informed Union Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan yesterday.

“Centre’s decision to commemorate the historical Paika Rebellion, the first freedom movement against East India Company of British in Odisha, on the completion of its 200 years, is definitely a proud moment for Odia community. PM Modi was requested to honour the sacrifice of freedom fighters, during his visit to Odisha”, Pradhan said.

Keeping the request, Modi has agreed to felicitate the great heroes of Odisha for their contribution to freedom, he said.

The history has not recognized the immense contribution of veterans like Raghu Dibakar, Lakhman Nayak, Chakhi Khuntia, Bauxi Jagabandhu, Veer Surendra Sai and Nirmal Munda in the freedom struggle. By felicitating the families of these great heroes of Odisha, PM Modi will honour the Odia community, Pradhan added.

Notably, Modi will visit Odisha to attend BJP’s two-day national executive meeting scheduled on April 15 and 16 in Bhubaneswar.
