Poll officials seize truckload of refrigerators, mixer grinders in Odisha

Puri: A truckload of refrigerators and mixer grinders were seized by poll officials today in Odisha, purportedly for distribution among voters to influence them.

The flying squad of the Election Commission intercepted a truck near Chupuring under Kanas block in Puri district.

While the staff of the vehicle could not come up with satisfactory answers, the officials seized the electronic gadgets.

We suspect that the refrigerators and mixer grinders were being brought to distribute among the voters so as to influence them in favour of a particular candidate, an official said.

Meanwhile, Puri District Collector Jyoti Prakash Das said further investigation is on into the incident.

Worth mentioning, the flying squad has so far seized cash from vehicles numerous times in the ensuing polls. Seizure of electronic items is first incident this poll season.
