Pregnant woman, niece killed in road mishap in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman and her niece died after reportedly being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Kotinada police outpost in Aska area of Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

The deceased have been identified as Rashmita Parida (28) and her niece Asharani Khandual of Muapali area. The five-year-old son of the woman had a narrow escape.

According to reports, the incident took place when they were taking a morning walk on the State Highway. The two died on the spot. The woman was eight months pregnant, sources said.

On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation. Efforts were on by cops to trace the vehicle.
