The State Election Commissioner ( SEC ) Ajit Kumar Tripathy has slapped a showcause notice on Finance minister and BJD vice-president Prasanna Acharya to explain why the statements he made in a election campaign meeting in Bargarh will not be construed as a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Acharya has been asked to submit his reply by November 23, sources in the SEC’s office said.

The Finance minister had, in a public speech in Bargarh on November 17, said he will stop fund flow to the area if people vote for the Congress. The recorded version of his speech was aired by Kanak TV on Wednesday.
