Second DCP appointment soon in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: In view of rise of population and fastest expansion of state capital, government is planning to appoint second Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to maintain law and order in the city.

Another IPS officer will be appointed in rank of DCP within 15 days, said Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania here on Friday.

A proposal had been sent to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recommending appointment of another DCP in the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar. The appointment will be made after the proposal gets nod from the CM, he said.

With the population growth in the city and expansion of Commissionerate Police periphery upto Jatni, the rate of crimes has also increased and law and order has deteriorated in the recent past years.

The proposal for appointing another DCP in the Commissionerate Police came reviewing the present scenario of crime, a number of rallies during Assembly session and law and order related issues in the city.

Currently, there are 19 police stations coming under Bhubaneswar DCP.

After appointment of second DCP in Bhubaneswar, while Kharavela Nagar police station, Mahila Thana, Capital police station, Airfield police station, Mancheswar police station, Shree Lingaraj police station, Sahid Nagar police station, Laxmisagar police station and Balianta police station will come under one DCP, remaining Jatni police station, Khandagiri police station, Tamando police station, Infocity police station, Chandrasekharpur police station and Nayapalli police station will be under another DCP.
