Speed governors mandatory for commercial vehicles in Odisha

Commercial vehicles in Odisha will now require installing of speed governors by July 31.

A notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department says that all commercial vehicles in the state will be required to install speed governors in their engines by July 31.

“Speed limit for commercial vehicles having a seating capacity of more than eight and weighing more than 3500 kg including private and tourist has been fixed at 80 kmph. The speed limit for school buses has been fixed at 60 kmph. Action will be taken against vehicle owners not equipping their vehicles with speed governors by July 31,” informed Ramesh Majhi, Commerce and Transport Minister speaking to reporters here.

Sources said the state government has initiated the tender process for procurement of speed limit devices. Each device will cost between Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000, the sources added.
