Bhubaneswar, Oct 3:
A 30-year old youth had a miraculous escape even after he jumped on to the tracks in front of an approaching train in a bid to commit suicide at the Bhubaneswar railway station on Thursday morning.
At around 10.10 am, Srinivas Patnaik of Nuasahi in Jeypore presently staying in Sailashree Vihar under Chandrasekharpur police limits here jumped before the Puri-Cuttack passenger train as it was approaching Platform No 1 of Bhubaneswar Railway station.
On seeing Srinivas jump on to the tracks, the loco pilot stopped the train. By this time, four compartments of the train, including the engine, had already crossed the place where he jumped. He was rescued unhurt from the track after the train was moved back, informed Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of the GRP Saubhagya Swain. Srinivas was later handed over to his brother, he said.
Srinivas’ brother, who works in the state secretariat here, said he was mentally unstable and may have tried to commit suicide.
No case has been registered in connection with the incident.
