Supreme Court stays Odisha HC’s ban on animal sacrifice in Chhatar Jatra
Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court has put an interim stay on the Orissa High Court’s order of banning animal sacrifice during Chhatar Jatra in Kalahandi district.
The HIgh Court had on January 6 imposed a ban on sacrifice of animals and birds in and around the precincts of Maa Manikeshwari temple at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district during the festival.

Petitioner Bhawani Shankar Nial had moved the apex court seeking interim direction to perform the sacrifice ritual.
