Top Maoist leader Kudumula Venkata Rao alias Ravi dies

Top CPI (Maoist) leader Kudumula Venkata Rao alias Ravi died today while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Visakhapatnam.

Kudumula Venkata Rao was allegedly involved in the Maoist onslaught on security forces when Reds ambushed their boat in Chitrakonda reservoir in Malkangiri district killing 38 Andhra Pradesh policemen in 2008.

Kudumula is the chief of the Central Regional Committee (CRC)-1, which is one of the military formations of the CPI (Maoist) in the Andhra-Odisha border area.

He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head each in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

While several criminal cases were registered against him at various police stations, he was involved in as many as 126 landmine explosions, sources said.

Notably, Kudumula is a native of Kommangi village under Chintapalli mandal in Andhra Pradesh.
