Truck crushes elderly couple to death in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a truck ran over an elderly couple killing the duo on the spot near Tangarpali bridge under Dhanupali police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, today.

The deceased have been identified as Kanhaiyalal Soni (65) and his wife Muni (60) of Dalaipada in Sambalpur town.

According to reports, the two were travelling on a scooter driven by Kanhaiyalal on NH-53. He lost control over the wheels, following which both fell on the road. In the meantime, a truck approaching from rear ran over the couple leading to their death.

The driver of the truck surrendered at police station after the mishap. On the basis of a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased, police have registered a case and started an investigation. The bodies will be handed over to the family members tomorrow after post-mortem.
