Truck runs over cattle dealers in Odisha; 3 die, 1 critical

Bisoi: In a tragic incident, as many as three cattle dealers died and another one was critical after a speeding truck ran over them at Nuagaon Chhak on National Highway-49 under Bisoi police limits in Mayurbhanj district in wee hours today.

The deceased persons have been identified as Sukura Mahali, Salkhan Hansda and Susant Mohant. The cattle dealer, who was injured in the incident, was Durga Nayak.

According to reports, at least seven cattle dealers were on their way to Jharpokharia from Jashipur with cattle. The incident occurred at around 12.30 am when police personnel were grilling them near Nuagaon Chhak suspecting their involvement in cattle trafficking racket. During the period, a speeding truck laden with cement lost control and ran over the cattle dealers who were standing near the road.

While three cattle dealers died on the spot, one sustained grievous injuries in the incident. Three others narrowly escaped in the mishap. All the cattle dealers were the residents of Jharpokharia Police Station area.

On receiving information, Bisoi police reached the spot and sent the injured person to Manada Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

A case in this regard has been registered at the Jharpokharia Police Station.
