The pachyderms have been reportedly killed due to electrocution.

The animals which had come in search of food to the agricultural fields, this being paddy season, got killed after coming in contact with live electric wires laid down by locals to hunt wild boars, local sources said.

Forest department officials rushed to the spot on being informed by locals and have seized the carcasses for conduct of post mortem.

“This being paddy season, the animals had come from the hills to quench their thirst as well as feed on the paddy. Possibly the animals have died after coming in contact with live electric wire on receiving electric shock. There are injury marks on their bodies,” said Rajkumar Chalan, forester of Bargarh Forest division.
