Two pregnant tribal women carried on cot in Odisha, deliver babies midway

In another instance of failure of ambulance service in remote regions of Odisha, two pregnant tribal women suffering from labour pain were carried on a cot to the hospital and they delivered two baby boys midway in Lakhmipur area of Koraput district.

After delay of 102 ambulance service, the family members had to carry the pregnant women, who were suffering from labour pain, on a charpoy. Although, they got a vehicle on the way to hospital, the women delivered babies midway. The women are said to be in good condition. They are undergoing treatment at the hospitals.

According to reports, Parama Mandinga of Dakana village under Lakhmipur block had informed the Asha workers about his wife Rupai’s labour pain yesterday morning.

After waiting for 102 ambulance, he had to carry his wife on a cot to the hospital at around 11 am. On the way the family members stopped an auto rickshaw in which the patient was carried to the hospital, but she delivered a baby boy midway.

In a similar incident at Sapamba village, another pregnant woman Limbai Wadeka was carried on a charpoy by her husband and some villagers to the hospital after 102 ambulance failed to reach the home in time. Later an ambulance coming from Narayanpatna took the patient to the hospital, but she delivered a baby boy midway.

Such incidents have put a question mark on the successful implementation of government’s Janani Surksha Yojana in the tribal dominated district Koraput.
