Two top women Maoists surrender to Odisha police

Bhawanipatna, Mar 16:

Two women Maoists leaders surrendered to Yashwant Jathawa, IG of South-West range in Odisha Police in Kalahandi today. The surrender comes soon after an exchange of fire between Maoists and security forces in the area.

The two top Maoist leaders were identified as Phulabati alias Mithila, aged 30 years and Rukmati alias Ramshila, aged 28 years.

Both belong to the Chhattisgarh cadre and are of ACM rank. They were carrying a reward Rs 4 lakh each on their head.

The Maoists belonging to Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh had joined the organisation in 2006. Both were actively providing leadership as area committee members of Koili Bhitar area committee at Mainpur under Nupada Division of CPI Maoist organization.

“Rukmati was also a member of the Protection team of Murli, who was a central committee member and divisional secretary of Mainpur Nupada Division,” said Yashwant Jathawa, IG of Police, South-West range.
