Weather alert: Heavy rainfall warning issued for 14 Odisha dists

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and heavy rainfall is likely to lash as many as 14 districts of Odisha today, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

The districts likely to experience intense downpour are Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Angul.

“Latest doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and intense spell likely to occur over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Angul between 2 pm and 6 pm today,” a bulletin of the meteorological centre said.

It also forecasted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on August 6.

All major rivers in Odisha are flowing below the danger level and there is no flood situation in the state, official sources said.
