10 children affected with jaundice in Odisha’s Balikuda

Balikuda, May 16:

Over ten children have been reported affected with jaundice in Balikuda village under Badachana Block of Odisha’s Jajpur district in the last fifteen days.

Consumption of contaminated water is suspected to be the cause behind the spread of the disease.

While the outbreak of the disease was reported in the village two weeks earlier, shockingly, no medical team has visited the village, locals said.

In the absence of medical help, people are reportedly taking their children to faith healers.

Since wells have dried up in the village with the scorching summer and the lone tube well fails to deliver enough  water to meet the needs of the villagers, people are forced to use contaminated water from the nearby river for their daily needs, villagers lamented.
