The court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar today convicted Alekh Chandra Sahu, a retired Revenue inspector of taking bribe and sentenced him to 18-months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3000.

The court also ordered three-month rigorous imprisonment for default of payment of the fine, under section 13(2) to be read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

The court also sentenced Sahu to undergo one-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000, with one-month rigorous imprisonment in default of payment of fine under section 7 of the PC Act. The sentences will run concurrently.

It may be mentioned that the state Vigilance had, in December, 2007, charge sheeted Sahu after registering a bribery case against him for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 800 from Dibyajyoti D Nigam Sethi of Begana village under Patna police station limits in Keonjhar district for the submission of the inquiry report in a mutation case filed by Sethi before the tehsildar of Keonjhar.

The case was under trial in the Special Judge court, Vigilance, Keonjhar.
