20-YO boy ends life after testing COVID-19 positive in Odisha

Nabarangpur: Distressed after being tested positive for COVID-19, a 20-year-old boy died by suicide at Badamasigam village in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Narendra Bisoi.

Sources said Narendra along with his friends had undergone RT-PCR test conducted at the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sanamasigam. As Narendra’s reports came out positive yesterday, the COVID staff informed him about it and asked him to remain in isolation.

Hearing this, Narendra got stressed and did not return to his house till late. Later in the evening, he went to his house and consumed pesticide kept for agricultural usage. Though the family rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here, doctors declared him brought dead.

On receiving information, the Kodinga police reached the spot for an inquiry and sent the body for post-mortem. Later, the body was handed over to his family for cremation.

Narendra’s friends said he was tensed after his COVID-19 reports came out positive and took the extreme step fearing social stigma.
