Cong protests Justice Das’ remark on Odisha chit fund scam

A day after Odisha chit fund scam enquiry commission chief Justice MM Das opined that the government should not be expected to compensate chit fund scam victims; supporters of Cuttack Nagar Congress today staged a protest in front of his office demanding his resignation.

Hundreds of Congress workers led by Cuttack Nagar Congress Committee President Mohammed Moquim reached the Commission’s office in the premises of the police headquarters and shouted slogans asking him to step down.

Commissionerate police, on the other hand, arrested dozens of agitators to avoid any untoward incident.

“The statement of Justice Das clearly indicates bias. How can the chit fund victims trust him to ensure a refund under such circumstances? We urge him to step down on moral grounds. Else, he should be held responsible if any chit fund victim commits suicide,” said Moquim while adding that they would take the issue to the villages.
