Carcasses of elephant, calf recovered from Mayurbhanj in Odisha

Carcasses of a female elephant and a calf were recovered from Niuti Chamarasahi under Gudagudia forest range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district this morning.

According to reports, locals spotted the two animals lying dead in a pool of mud and informed the Forest department about it.

Local Ranger Madhusudan Patra and Forest department officials reached the spot along with a scientific team to ascertain the reason behind the death of the two pachyderms.

Preliminary investigation revealed that anthrax might have led to the death of the elephant duo.
