Bus accident: Bandh observed in Odisha’s Athmallik

A day after the tragic bus accident here in Angul district in which at least 19 persons were killed, the Athmallik college students’ union today gave a bandh call in the town which was supported by the locals.

The students are demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family members of each deceased, arrest of the bus driver and the RTO who gave fitness certificate to the vehicle, and plying of new buses in Athmallik-Boudh route.

No vehicular movement was seen here due to the bandh. Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed, sources said.

The locals staged road blockade at several places here by burning tyres, sources added.

Notably, at least 19 persons were killed and around 48 injured when a bus in which they were travelling fell off a bridge near Puruna Manitri at Athmallik in Angul district yesterday.
