Odisha Cong leader Narasingha Mishra scotches rumours of resignation as LoP

Veteran Odisha Congress leader Narasingha Mishra today sought to put the rumour mills to rest over his resignation as Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state Assembly.

“I have not resigned from the post of Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. The discussions on this context are all rumours,” Narasingha Mishra said.

The rumours of his resignation gained momentum after he met AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi for the second time today in a span of two days in New Delhi.

Though it was not clear what transpired between the duo, party sources said that the Bolangir MLA apprised the Gandhi scion of the organizational affairs in the state.

On the other hand, the 16-member team of Congress MLAs today met Vincent George – close aide of party president Sonia Gandhi seeking appointment.

It is learnt from reliable sources that the leaders were not given appointment to meet Sonia Gandhi as she isn’t keeping well presently. They have been asked to meet the Congress chief after she recovers from her illness.

Later in the afternoon, the Congress team camping in the national capital met Ahmed Patel – political secretary to the party high command.

The team of Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra had met Rahul Gandhi yesterday at New Delhi over the Mahanadi river water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Besides, the team had met President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday over the issue seeking his interference and requested him to direct the Centre to constitute a tribunal to resolve the issue and direct Chhattisgarh Government to stop all project work till the dispute is solved.

Later on that day, the Congress MLAs also met AICC general secretary in-charge of Odisha BK Hariprasad.
