7 months after man went missing, skeletal remains recovered in Odisha

Kamakhyanagar: Around seven months after a man went missing in Odisha, his skeletal remains were recovered in a village in Dhenkanal district.

The deceased person has been identified as Sanatan Behera, a resident of Balipasi village under Parajang police limits. He was missing since September last year.

According to reports, Sanatan was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live-wire trap allegedly set up by poachers for wild boar while he was going outside home to attend the nature’s call in September 2022. To hide the crime, the poachers buried the body in the ground.

With having no trace of Sanatan, his wife Reena Behera lodged a missing complaint with the police.

The truth unfolded recently a few days ago when one of the accused persons asked Reena as to why she was searching for her husband, who had been killed and buried by them long before.

Following the confession, Reena again moved the police station and based on her complaint, police arrested two persons — Sanjay Dehury and Pilu Sethy — out of three in connection with the murder case.

Based on their statement and recreation of crime scene, police in presence of scientific team and district magistrate started excavating at the spot where the body was buried and exhumed the skeletal remains from the ground.

The family of the deceased person demanded stringent punishment for all accused persons.

The further investigation into the sensational murder case is underway, informed Kamakhyanagar SDPO Ranjan Kumar Dey.
