The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha crime branch (CB) arrested Chinmayansu Hota, son of Satakodi Hota, Editor of Odia daily ‘Samay’, this evening for cheating crores of rupees from the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), the premier B school in the state.

Hota, who was working as an accountant in XIMB, had allegedly cheated Rs 1.28 cores from the Xavier management by producing forged documents, CB sources said.

The accused, who worked as Finance Officer, siphoned off the money, which consisted of service tax dues and employees’ insurance, by producing forged receipts without depositing the amount in the bank, the sources said.

He was also found to have forged the CA certificate on the basis of which he got the job at XIMB, they added.

Hota was arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by the vice chancellor of XIMB.
