Talking to OST today, Rayagada collector Jagannath Mohanty said the Dangaria Kondh Development Agency, on behalf of the district administration, would set up the Adivasi Bazar at Chatikana village in Bisamkatak block with financial assistance by the Regulated Market Committee (RMC).

He said the proposed Bazar would be set up on experimental basis in the first phase to help the Dangaria Kondhs sell their produce like turmeric, tamarind, orange, banana, pineapple and mahula at the right price.

“The decision has been taken after considering the plight of these Dangaria Kondhs, who are often forced to sell their produce at a throwaway price to the brokers on their way to the local market,” the collector added.

Mohanty said depending on the success of the Adivasi Bazar, similar models would be replicated at Parasali village in Kalyansinghpur block for the Dangaria Kondhs and another in Gunupur sub division for Lanjia Saura tribals.

Talking about the management of the Adivasi Bazar, the collector said the district administration would form a special committee to supervise the sale and marketing of the produce of the Dangaria Kondhs.
