Chit fund scam: Patra panel receives 7 lakh affidavits

OST Bureau

Cuttack, Oct 1:

The Justice RK Patra Commission of Inquiry, probing into the mega chit fund scam in the state, received nearly seven lakh affidavits as the deadline for receiving the affidavits ended on Monday.

Finding it extremely difficult to store the affidavits, the Commission is likely to go through them immediately and issue summons to witnesses to depose before it at the earliest.

The Commission had extended its deadline twice in the meantime as a number of affected persons expressed their eagerness to file affidavits.

The state government had appointed the Justice Patra, former judge of Odisha High Court and retired Chief Justice of Sikkim in July this year to head the one-man panel to identify individuals and entities indulged in unauthorised collection of public deposits and to find out involvement of influential persons in protecting and promoting such illegal activities in the state.
