The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Kumar Prusty (40) and Bebina Mallick (25) of Bhubaneswar.

At around 3:30 pm yesterday, the villagers found Mahesh hanging from a java plum tree while Bebina was found lying on the ground near his body.

After being informed, the local police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem. A suicide note has also been found from the pocket of the man.

Although the deaths look like suicide but there are many unanswered questions.

While, the man was found hanging from the dupatta of the woman, the woman had a towel tied to her neck but was lying on the ground. The villagers have pointed out that Mahesh’s pant was soaked in blood.

Mahesh, along with his son, has been reportedly missing since a few days. His wife had filed a complaint with Khandagiri police in Bhubaneswar.

It may be mentioned that his son is still missing and Bebina’s parents have also filed a missing report a few days ago in Capital police station.

“We have sent the bodies for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of the death,” said Tangi IIC Biswaranjan Sahoo.
