Heavy downpour to pound Odisha as fresh low pressure forms over Bay

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area was formed over northeast and adjoining areas of eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts today morning.

According to IMD, A low pressure area has been formed over northeast and adjoining areas of eastcentral Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts at 05:30 hrs IST on August 18.

It’s likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during next 12 hours and concentrate into Depression during subsequent 24 hours, the IMD forecast.

This is the second low pressure over the Bay of Bengal in a week.

Under the influence of above system over the sea, Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh today.

The regional meteorological centre issued orange warning and yellow for several districts for tomorrow.

As per prediction, Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Balangir, Sonepur and Boudh during Aug 19 to 20. And, heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati during the period.

Moreover, Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur and Kalahandi between Aug 20 and 21. Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh and Keonjhar during the period.
