International Women’s Day celebrated at Odisha’s KIIT varsity

Bhubaneswar, March 8:

Odisha’s KIIT university celebrated International Women’s Day here today on the theme “Make it happen-Equity, Empowerment, Excellence”.

“Women can bring prosperity to any nation. They have such qualities to lead a country. They are capable of doing excellent in every sphere,” said Eivind S Homme, Norwegian Ambassador to India, while addressing the gathering.

“Women are the centre of every society. Women are as competent as men. We should respect women not for patronized point of view, but for reorganization point of view,” said noted writer and founder of Counselage India Suhel Seth in his speech while criticizing the stereotype propaganda about women every day.

Addressing the gathering, noted Bollywood actress, movie director and social activist Nandita Das asked the women to follow their heart and encouraged them to do what they wish.

Akila Urankar, President of Business Standard gave examples of Mandesi Bank of Satara, set up and managed by a group of women highlighting examples of women self empowerment.

In his welcome address, Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS, said KIIT and KISS always gave importance to women empowerment.

“Women can’t be empowered without quality education,” he added.
