Job fraud in Odisha’s Home deptt, father-son duped of Rs 1.50 lakh

Bhubaneswar: A person was duped of Rs 1.50 lakh by a fraud in Odisha Secretariat being allured of getting a job for his son in Home department held by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Police launched investigation after the victim lodged a complaint with Capital police station here.

The victim was identified as Nilamani Moharana and his son Narendra of Dhenkanal town.

According to reports, Nilamani was introduced to a youth, who gave his identity as a senior official of Home department in the State Secretariat. He duped Nilamani of Rs 1.50 lakh on pretext of providing a job to his son Narendra at Home department.

While Nilamani had deposited Rs 1 lakh in four installments in account of the alleged fraud identified as Raghunath Mohapatra’s account at SBI branch located at DCP office in Vani Bihar, he had given him Rs 50,000 cash.

Later, Nilamani visited DCP office where Raghunath was supposed to work. However, he returned with empty hand as there was no such employee working at the office in name of Raghunath Mohapatra.

Then he visited Secretariat in search of that person, who had taken Rs 1.50 lakh from him alluring him of providing a job for his son in the home department.

Talking to media, Nilamani said that the accused had taken him and his son on a bike to the secretariat on April 24. The security forces at the gate had not stopped them after seeing that person. He was asked to deposit Rs 1.50 lakh in that person’s account to get job. After depositing the amount, an appointment letter was provided to his son by the Home department on April 29.

Later, he came to know that that appointment letter was fake and the mobile number of Ragunath was also switched off.

Acting on the complaint at the Capital police station, police have started investigation to identify the accused by verifying the CCTV installed at the secretariat.

The job fraud case will be exposed soon, said IIC Manas Garnaik.
