Kalinganagar firing: Severed palms found at field in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: Tension gripped ‘Beera Bhoomi Padia’ in Odisha’s Jajpur district after ten chopped palms were found at the field today. The palms are suspected to be of those tribals who died in police firing on January 2, 2006 while protesting against land acquisition for a Tata Steel project.

The palms were chemically preserved and kept at Beera Bhoomi Club near the field. It is suspected that some miscreants broke the lock of the club house last night and took out the body parts. They later scattered the palms across the field.

As soon as the incident came to fore today, members of ‘Bisthapana Birodhi Jana Mancha’ demanded immediate arrest of those involved in committing the act.

Worth mentioning, the palms of the deceased tribals were in 2016 severed during post-mortem for establishment of their identities. The palms were then returned their family members but they refused to accept the body parts, following which those were kept inside the club.

Police have started investigation into the incident.
