According to the police, Bindhani has been arrested under section 341 and 326 of IPC. He had been detained yesterday for questioning.

“I branded her out of anger. If you hang me for that then I am prepared for it,” accused Dillip Bindhani had confessed yesterday.

The child, in the meanwhile, has been admitted to a government-run healthcare facility in Nachuni in the district for treatment in a critical condition. She would be kept there for another two weeks before she is moved to a CCI, said Chairperson of Jajpur District Child Protection Unit Bidyutlata Das, who called on her today.

Notably, yesterday the neighbours of the accused claimed that the five-year-old girl had been confined to a room and subjected to inhuman torture by way of branding her with hot iron objects since Monday. The girl was rescued yesterday from the captivity with the help of local police.

The minor girl’s father deserted her mother and got married to another woman few years ago. Later, her mother too tied knot with another man leaving her in the care of the woman’s father. The neighbours alleged that the man had been assaulting the child on many occasions.
