Maoists torch Kendu leaves worth Rs 2 crore in Odisha

Nabarangpur: A group of Maoists allegedly torched Kendu leaves worth around Rs 2 crore at Deobandha under Chandahandi block of Odisha’s Nabarangpur district late last night.

According to reports, more than 30 Maoists reached the spot and 10 of them barged into the godown inside which the leaves were stocked. The extremists then set the leaves on fire.

As per eyewitnesses, the Maoists initially threatened the security guards and Forest officials and later broke the lock of the godown.

On being informed, Fire personnel reached the place and doused the flames. Police have started investigation into the incident.

On the other hand, the incident has left the locals panic-stricken as it was the first case of violence by Maoists in the area.
