Noted writer Gayatri Basumallick passes away

Noted writer and Odisha Sahitya Academy awardee Gayatribasu Mallick passed away at her residence here on Friday after a prolonged illness.

She was 83.

She has written 20 novels and 200 short stories.

Her novel Kaberi was made into an Odia feature film directed by veteran director Govind Tej. She also wrote the script for a popular Odia television serial, ‘Madhuri Ra Madhurati’

She is survived by her two sons, popular theatre,TV and film actor Shankar Basu Mallick and Gouri Basu Mallick.

Sahitya Academy president Satakadi Hota, secretary Bijay Nayak among many others paid their last respect to the departed soul at her residence.
