Odisha forest staff suspended over leopard carcass issue

Barely three days after a leopard carcass was found in a reserve forest in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district with nails and tail missing, a forest official was today suspended and another was served with show cause notice over the incident.

Jharsuguda Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) placed Forest Guard Saudagar Kisan under suspension for dereliction of duty and issued a show cause notice to Bhikampali Forester.

Meanwhile, two persons from Denganamal village have reportedly been detained and being questioned to ascertain their involvement in the case.

It may be recalled that a carcass of a leopard with multiple injuries on the body and nails, tails missing was spotted by villagers of nearby Machida jungle under the Jharsuguda Forest Division on December 10.

It was suspected that the poachers had killed the big cat for its nails and tail.
